Loch Lomond Probably the most famous body of water in the world and certainly one of the most beautiful, Loch Lomond is where highlands meet lowlands and the contrast is most dramatic. With Ben Lomond towering over the northern-most stretch of the Loch, there are numerous opportunities for water sports and picnicking. You can arrange boat trips year round at Balloch.
The Trossachs It's been almost two centuries since Sir Walter Scott put the Trossachs on the map with his romantic tales of Rob Roy. They say the number of carriages passing Loch Katrine rose from 50 to 270 in the year following publication of Scott's Lady of the Lake (1810). William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy also waxed lyrical about the area and after Queen Victoria visited and gave it the royal seal of approval, the modern tourist industry was born. In more recent times, Hollywood has waded in with its own versions of our national heroes.
